Peas - Meteor

Need some advice about my peas.
I have planted out some Meteor peas today in my little polytunnel so that they will overwinter and I should have a crop in May. The seedlings I put out today are very straggly - do I need to support them yet and if so how will that work with them being in a (Small)poly tunnel?????:

I know that you will never have guessed I haven't grown peas before.........!

If they are putting out tendrils( the stringy bits that catch on to the supports) then they need to be supported. As to the poly tunnel, wait and see what height the peas grow to before making any decision,

If its one of those little cloche poly tunnel type things (about 18" high), then a good way to provide some support is to take some garden string, and run a loose loop around the top of the cloche, and tape it on the top, which should leave a loose hanging loop for the peas to 'grab' amd support themselves on! If bigger, then perhaps some canes with some netting strung between? Hope this is of some help!

Onion sets, garlic bulbs, early hardy broad beans and early hardy peas can all be planted out now for either early crops or an improved harvest come next year! Onion seeds are usually planted in December into a propagator indoors or in a heated greenhouse ready to be planted out after the last frost risk has passed!

The other things to consider planting at this time of year are fruit trees, apples, pears, raspberry canes, goosberry bushes, strawberry plants are all things that can be planted now in order to get well settled before next years growing season!

Another thing to do at this time of year is to sort out your beds, make any repairs to sheds and greenhouses, prune any fruit trees that need it, double dig and settle down your beds for the winter, add a good layer of organic matter and cover over for the winter! Not too much, honest! lol!
