Thanks for all your answers. I am getting abit worried now too as we are growing in the conservatory! Although that permits alot of space- not sure there will be any space left for us!

Will be buying some taller canes I think!

You can grow them round and round canes - I believe Joy Larcom does this with outdoor squashes - so just keep training them round 2 canes rather than up one. You'd need a wide pot and have the canes pointing outwards at a slight angle though. And plenty of string to keep tying them in.

Thanks for this. I think my cucumbers are going to make it after a very tottering second time of sowing, but I too had no idea they would grow to
6'+, so I'll use this advice. They are in 12" pots - is this big enough to sustain the growth?

People keep saying to tie things to the central strut in the GH roof. How do you do this when you have one that is integral to the structure. I can't work out how to attach anything. Is there a nifty gadget that slots into the dip in the middle of the strut. If so could someone advise on where you can get these?
I use net curtain wires, stretched across the sides of the greenhouse and across the roof. They are attached to the bolts. Works very well as you can tie string to them which the cucumber climbs up then up and over the inside of the roof.

Do all varieties of cucumber grow that tall, and do they need to be in the greenhouse or can I put them outside? I've got some Marketmore growing which are about 6-8" tall at the moment and in 3" pots.

I thought you could let cucumbers grow along the ground? I'm growing mine in large pots on the patio, and that's what I was hoping to do - or do I need a re-think?

yeah that's what i was planning too grubby.. although if they grow that huge they'll take over all of the garden if i leave them to trail everywhere

bit confused about growing them up canes.. do you just loosely tie them like you do with beans? and will they curl round it or just go up straight?
