As with most animals it's the female who bears fruit............
If it was the male you wouldn't get more than one...........

Jings Veggielover, can you tell me any other species where it is the male who bears the offspring If that was the case they would have one and that would be the end of the story You can be assured that your courgettes will come from the female flowers as is the ordinary way of things, and you will get plenty - gluttons for punishment
From each according to his ability, to each according to his needs.

No they wouldn't - the pubs would be full of baby courgettes where the male had left it on the seat.
But courgettes produce both male and female flowers on the same plant.
If you want to eat courgette flowers it is easier to go for the male flowers, I just snip the stalk off a cm or so away from the main stem. You can also cut off the females when they are in flower, with tiny fruits, but that seems like a waste to me.
As for the batter .... I've just finished a Japanese cookery course and did tempura. Our ethnic japanese teacher said he would recommend buying tempura batter mix from the local chinese/oriental supermarket, unless you want to become a total expert. Tempura batter is quite fiddly to make, not always successful and usually involves ice cubes.
But having read this, I'm definitely going to try courgette flower tempura this summer! Thanks for the idea ...

Give a man a fish and he will eat for a day. Teach him how to fish, and he will sit in a boat and drink beer all day
