Enviromesh - to buy or not to buy?

Over the last few months I've been thinking of buying some, we've had leel moth before and some on our site have lost loads of leeks.

I was going to buy 2.6m x 20m so I would have more than enough to make several cloches for cabbages etc and some for leeks and carrots.

If any of you already use it would you say it's a good purchase or is fine netting just as good?

I haven't bought Enviromesh but I have bought debris netting which I believe is cheaper. I#ve got pretty much everything covered against carrot fly, aphids, rabbits, birds and the cabbage white.

Buy it, buy it, buy it! It's costly but one heck of an investment. I've got some on their third year of reuse and they're still going really string and nothing gets through it as long as you're careful about sealing it off properly.

That's the thing every year I end up buying netting and then it rips so I guess even though it costs more as you say it would be an investment.

I'll have to work out if 2.6 is wide enough

This place sells their own version, it also sells some second-user stuff - might be a cheap way of trying it out? Definately get some netting though!

I bought some over the weekend to cover my carrots and brassica's its good stuff and I would advise buying it. Especially considering the cost and effort you put into your seedlings only for them ot be ruined by pests. It feels quite robust and should last a few years as well (at least).

I've got some Enviromesh on it's 3rd year this year, still going strong. I've invested in a new piece every year so I now have enough for 2 beds of brassicas and one of carrots. Our onions/leeks aren't being attacked by anythind (so far!) so don't need to cover them yet.
I bought mine from Harrod Horticultural because they sold it in different widths and per metre, but I think other places do now as well.

Not quite, but it would keep carrot flies out which are purportedly the size of a house fly!(greenfly would get through though!) Problem with it is that it inhibits light (or gives shade if you are with the 'glass is half full' way of thinking.)

I have debris netting on the sides of my carrot bed 2 foot high with enviromesh on the top!

Trouble is.........it's not a thing of beauty! Maybe there's a market there for some form of ornamental enviromesh...........how about with plants and flowers emblazoned onto it?

Is garden fleece as good as enviromesh at keeping pests away from my brassicas? It looks cheaper than the mesh but what do I compromise?

The look of it doesn't bother me and the look of nice veg is much better than insect / bird hit ones!

Jack,

I have found this year that the fleece is good at keeping off pests but I reckon the environmesh will last you many more seasons and therefore a better investment
