Weed and Feed with tomatoes?

Hello, I just joined this forum I'm a bit of a novice at growing vegetables but it's really enjoyable. . Now on to my problem, my boyfriend's grandmother told me that she had some potting soil that I could put on my tomato plant in the little pot around it so that it would grow, because the potting soil had nutrients in it. So the reason I'm freaking out right now is because I just found out that it's "Weed and Feed" specifically used for grass and this morning my tomato plant is all wilted. Now I need some help if anyone has any idea about if this stuff could kill my plant or if I need to do something special to take care of my plant now so that it does not die, or if it's just pointless to even try anymore.

I think you need to look into this a bit further - I've just googled it and the chemicals sound quite bad.....even if the tomato survives you need to look into whether it would be safe to eat.

I might be overreacting but I'd not really want to eat stuff that had been weed and feeded.....

What area do you live in? As I have some money maker seedlings left if yours has died? If you live close to me you could come collect some?

Personally I would wash every bit of soil and compost off the roots under a gently running tap.

Then carefully re-pot into a smallish pot in fresh compost.

Keep the plant coolish and out of bright light - water lightly and often - for a few days to see if it recovers.

If it survives then it can go back into its previous size pot.

I don't know - teakdesk's advice is pretty good if you can wash it through and see if you can revive it.

Could you pop your location into your profile though - so that we know in future....all the websites I found were US ones.

The weedkiller in the weed and feed will be systemic and if the plant has wilted it will be in it's system.

Bin it and start again.............you know it makes sense!

It's even suggested with weed and feed that you don't compost the lawn cuttings for 4 cuts (at least) so I would certainly not grow the plant on any further. Start again - and don't worry too much about nutrients!
