If they were ready to pick are you sure it wasn't a larger two-footed thief?

so sorry that the wretched birds got there first, that sucks....today i went into my garden and found that the flowers are falling off my broad beans and i can see tiny pods growing, this is my frist time, so i am well impressed, i do suggest that you cover the beans with some lightweight plastic mesh, this will keep the critters off them, sorry that they got them first...good luck next time...

ma i add that we to have alot of wood pigeons here and none of them have been near my crops, but my cats have a habit of peeing in my soil, also raking up the soil if it is soft, i do have a water gun at the ready incase i see them doing it again....you can buy old net curtains from any second hand shop, these will work. again i am sorry the birds got your beans...nasty little rotters....
