i've spent the last few days slaving away in the wind and rain building a raised bed and filling it with a trailer load of topsoil then planting everything out, i got cold and wet and it wasn't much fun

so how come when i've done everything we get a lovely day like today?? i could be out there doing everything in the warm sunshine, getting a lovely tan but i've got nothing left to do!!

most things are either in pots or the raised bed so i've not got any weeds.. might go and plant some just so i can dig them up again

Why not relax and watch it grow? Wish I could. I was born to garden and forced to work. The weather is beautiful here, but I am in my lunch hour at work thinking what I could be doing in the garden at home!

yeah i'm always like that at work too flo! what's worse is i sit right next to the window with the sun beating in and i just want to get out in the garden and do something.. although i wished i hadn't bothered yesterday, i transplanted some swedes into the raised bed and they've just sprawled out and died

If they have just flopped, they are likely to recover. Once the roots find themselves, they usually perk up again.

I'm really sorry to hear that the swedes have died. Are you sure they're not just recuperating from the move? I always sow swede direct, so have no experience of transplant. I went out to fetch a sarnie just now and passed a pile of waste cardboard in a corridor. In one of the boxes was a small wooden pallet, just big enough to stand the cukes on so they get some air under the buckets. Needless to say it's now in my office waiting for transport home. Funny how you're still tuned in to the garden even when you're not there.

they're just sprawled everywhere though, not just a bit floppy but totally laid out on the soil like they've totally given up the ghost

Yeah, they will probably recover! It might take a few days/weeks but just leave them be. Trust me!!!
