  • Garlic- it's given up!

My garlic seems to have completely died back. It came up at first, with a few wimpy leaves, but now they have gone yellow and died off, and nothing's happening. I tried digging around to see what has happened, it looks like a new single clove (not bulb) has formed for each plant, and the original one has rotted, but the new clove appears to be dormant.

The new cloves look fairly plump and healthy, but it seems odd that I am back where I started.
I'm growing onions in the same bed which are acting in a normal way with no problems I can see.

    Can anyone offer an explanation?

When did you plant your Garlic?
There are 10 kinds of people in the world, those that understand binary and those that don't.

Mine did the same, but they were planted last September and I pulled 30 odd up yesterday. A few were a bit ropey but most have now been washed and are drying nicely in the sun. Going to plait them for people for pressies next week.

If they are a single clove, then they haven't had enough time - but the rain 2 days ago up here must have weakened the soil and that's why all mine flopped over - but as they were dying back anyway I've not lost anything.

I can't remember exactly (I did write it on the label at the lottie) Very early this year though, maybe mid January.
