  • What is Going on?

It is 6 days before the middle of the Winter (Longest night and shortest day) here in the Southern Hemisphere, and my veggies are still growing.

My peppers ignore th Winter completely and on variety of Egg.
Tomatoes are slower but are still forming fruit (Floradade, Tropic, Brandywine OTV, Paul Robeson and Belgium Giant).

My squash (Smararg, a variety of Rolet) is still growing and flowering and also setting fruit. Only in wet weather there are less, if none pollen.

Whats up? I must mention there is no frost here in South Africa. However it is very wet.

    Regards

Hi Johan, don't complain. Your vegges sem to do better in winter than ours in the UK do in summer. 6 days before midsummer and, just as an example, my tomatoes are flowering but no sign of even mini-fruit yet and my strawberries are still green. Hot weather promised for the weekend again so they may kick in.
Why didn't Noah just swat those 2 greenflies?

Why are they called apartments when they are all stuck together?

      No,
I am not complaining, just wondering.
I plant under 30% shade to keep out butterflies, birds and cats. I high summer I suffer burning damage because it sometimes gets in the higher thirties even to lower forties degrees of C.
Then you can see the burn spots on fruit.
