  • PSB already????

whilst watering the garden last night i noticed that my PSB is producing already, (I only sowed the seeds in feb!), my dad said to chop out the centre bit as its possibly going to bolt otherwise, but on closer inspection today there are smaller florrets begining to form as you would usually expect (see photo). So am not really sure what to do. on one hand, I dont want to loose it (but do have 3 other plants- and could possibly quickly get some on in the greenhouse and have a later plant than the others) but on the other hand I had a rubbish crop this year with probably only getting a handfull of florettes off 1 plant as the other 2 failed! HELP- what do I do!

(ps no idea if piccy has uploaded- supposed to be as attachment! but basically looks like my old plants should have done back in march!)

Nope dont think so, Checked packet and it said plant out late spring, harvest march-april. they are under enviro-mesh that will keep it a bit warmer and has been stupidly hot at times- but cant see it thinking its a year later already!

Summer broccoli will be sown in early spring, but winter broccoli in about April (plant out in June, harvest Dec-Mar)

I think you have a summer variety there

Perhaps ... the packet said sow in late spring, not plant out.

Your Dad maybe right, looks like it has bolted. are all/what % the plants like this? Have they been under stress?...drought, not hardened off properly, hungry etc.

Do you use a quality seed supplier, and has there been a mix up? .... seems more unlikely

Whatever.... you need to eat that! then see if you can get a few replacement plants from a nurseryman.

Although packet says early, its got the colour chart with sow indoors, outdoors and harvest all highlighted for march to may.
3 other plants look ok so far, they were all harden off and been in ground ages. Guess i'll just have to enjoy it!

Sounds feasible 2-sheds. Tonight we harvested a small head (4") of calabrese Kabuki sown 1st March.
