Couldn't resist any longer, so I harvested one sack where the foliage had died down a bit, and got some, had for tea and were delicious. Not bad eh?

After furtling I dug up two shy's of Duke of York and got enough for supper and Sunday dinner. Seemed a shame as the tops were still in full growth but it was worth robbing a few!

to present to him vegetables and all beautiful flowers.- Offerings of Thutmose III to Amon-Ra (1500 BCE)

I've just been for a furtle and gathered enough Charlotte potatoes for our tea tonight! Woo hoo! Also got a half dozen scallions, and some baby carrots.

Not much but it's a great feeling to be harvesting at last!

Up here they call the potato stalks above ground "Tattie Shaws", so I guess a 'shy' is the Olde English equivalent.

Its exciting isn't it? digging your hand into the soil and lifting out the first potatoe of the year, i think thats what gardening is about, experienceing things for yourself and not just buying them in plastic bags from supermarkets

                          that was the best bit!

The missus said it reminded her of a TV Vet programme! 'like your hand was up a cow's %$^&' or something is what she said!
