Lost a mini gem :(

Checked the raised bed today and lost a mini gem.

I assume it's slug damage, as the stem was through, and furry around it (bit like white mould in appearence).

Dose of slug pellets laid, and plan on getting hold of coffee from Costa ASAP to protect the bed with.

Whenever I lose a lettuce like that I riddle 2 inches deep around the affected plant and usually find a cutworm. It is a fat caterpillar about 1.5 inches long and moves from plant to plant. A slug would probably feed on all the lettuce.
