Broccoli Marathon - when to pick?

Hi,

This is my first year of growing anything. I normally kill any houseplants and I am so excited that things are actually growing. It's amazing. I have turned into a complete geek, checking my plants every morning and night and making sure they are ok.

I just wondered if someone can tell me if I should pick my broccoli now or should I leave it to get bigger. I have been reading on the internet that you should pick it before the yellow flowers but if I wait for the yellow flowers by then it will be too late. Having just looked at the photo myself I think I am too late and that it is just about to flower. Any info will be greatly appreciated.

Looks great to me! If you cut the big floret and leave the plant you should get some little florets later.

I have since picked it and already have little florets growing which I couldn't see before.

I will cook and eat it tomorrow. Is it true that you should wash it in white wine vinegar before you eat it?

Never heard that before!?! I would have thought a quick rinse and cook it! Can't wait for mine to grow!

Soaking in salty water for a while is a good idea, it kills any critters that might be hiding
