Courgette Plants STILL not growing :(

Hi Everyone

I've just come back from two weeks on hols and hoped (with fingers and toes crossed) that my courgettes would be doing something...but they aren't growing at all.

I posted a thread re this a while back and all the kind feedback was to sit and wait...they have been in the ground almost six weeks and they have barely got any bigger They are variety Cavali and one Parthenon. They are looking a bit yellow but do have flowers and generally look okay but just SMALL!!!

I prepared the plot by adding some composted horse manure and paper shreddings then soil - could I have done more bad than good?

Before I went on hols I fed them with a seaweed solution - thought a nice tonic would help but nothing.

Any advice would be so useful - I'm considering buying more seeds and sowing some more in their place

Still lots of time yet, they can take a while to get going but the only thing that will stop them is being eaten by slugs. Give them another feed and maybe a shot of Epsom Salts. We're promised warm weather from tomorrow, so that should get them going.

Where is the plot situated? Full sun all day/half day or shaded?

Windy?

I think courgettes don't need much water or feed when first planted to encourage them to put out roots so that they are fully established by the time they get full sun, which starts them going. Then feed and water copiously.


I have three in a corner, all sown together. It's a little shaded and the one that gets most sun is well ahead of the other two. They will catch up though.

They are in a South-facing plot...it should be perfect - next door's ones are mega and went in the same time

Chilly nights and wet,chilly days up here in North Wales. Give them another week and I bet they start to grow

I have a similar problem with some of my plants. Are they definitely in a sunny spot? I think sunlight is a big issue for courgettes. I'm experimenting with different growing conditions at the moment and my plants in manured ground (polytunnel) are yellowing and puny, whereas those in pots of miracle grow are thriving (they're also in perhaps a sunnier spot).

Mine are the same Robin. Healthy and happy but still on strike in their sunny bed. We've had some very chilly days and nights here in the last couple of weeks - think they just need a good dose of warm weather - me too for that matter!
