how many runners per strawberry plant?

our strawberries seem to be going mental at the mo & have runners coming off them like they are going out of fashion... is there a limit to how many runners you should have off a strawberry plant? or a limit on how many times that runner should "plant" itself? Sorry, not good on terminology we have one runner thats planted itself but then it seems to be growing more as ifs its continuing to "run" if that makes sense...

I only allow runners in the third year and limit it to one or two.

is that per plant or rooted bit per runner? cant stop ours now but might be able to stop further ones growing....

Thats per plant, dont need runners until the third year, these will then be planted up as new stock.
