As far as I know (which isn't very far) the male flowers get there first, I think it means the female flowers are about to follow - I know that's how it happened with my courgettes, and on the pumpkin now there are a couple of really small flowers which I think are male, at least they don't seem to have fruit behind them.My hopes are not always realized but I always hope (Ovid)

My courgettes has male flowers too!
Thanks for these info on courgettes and pumpkins.
My courgettes has male flowers too, but I can see some
females developing. I have a couple of pumpkins given by
a works colleague and the flowers are just coming out. I
have to keep an eye on it though.Last edited by lenlen51; 27-06-2009, 09:50 PM.

Sometimes a plant can also get male flowers if they are too stressed. Pumpkins are thirsty devils so make sure you keep them well watered.
