Tomatoes in Hanging Baskets

I have 100's & 1000's in two hanging baskets, first time I've tried this. They've produced masses of flowers and in the past few days I've noticed 20 plus baby toms. This may be a silly question, but do I need to net the hanging baskets so that they don't turn into bird feeders?

I'm growing loads of these for the first time too. The birds don't seem to have any interest in them so far ( and we have plenty of magpies in our garden.)
I will be interested to hear from more experienced growers if there is a need to net but haven't heard of tomatoes being a bird target before.

first year of 100s and 1000s for me too..lots of flowers, no fruit as yet,but it's still early...and colder here! mine are in pots. Did baskets toms last year and don't remember a problem with the birdies!

No need to worry, birds wont touch them.

Just plenty of water and feed.

im growing 100's n 1000's in baskets as well as sub arctic plenty (first picture)

these are in an 18" basket,b n q multipurpose compost with 5 osmocote fertilizer tabs and water retaining gel.watered twice a day,just started to feed them with 0-9-18 nutrient once a week, masses of fruit setting now

these are the 100's n 1000's with a courgette(black forest),18" dia again, a bit behind the arctic's but growing well!

this is a single courgette again black forest,16" dia, supposed to be a climbing variety but ive yet to see any evidence of that, just seems like a normal growth habit to me.
provided you keep up with the watering you should have no problems

I'm trying Gartenpearle in baskets this year. I have three with three plants in each. One is inside greenhouse and two are outdoors! (Must admit, I never thought of birds robbing them, but at least they are well away from slugs!)

All threads deviate a bit from the original post and as I'm growing toms in hanging baskets for the first time it was interesting to see how others have done.

I did hundreds & thousands in baskets last year - no problems at all with birds
Only 2 problems
a) they were on a "hanging basket tree" - which was on soil - came home one night to find it had fallen over completely (disturbance in soil?) - so staking this year
b) blight - sadly - so lost quite a few
they are a bit fiddly I felt, so I'm also doing gartenperle this year

I'm growing tumbling tom red and yellow this year got quite a few fruits on both.
