Mine are only 18" but some have lowers on top, a couple have cobs beginning to form but no tassels yet to be pollinated

      Here's mine.

The corn at home is now 4 foot with tassels - possibly a bit squeezed in, so rather taller.

Lottie sweetcorn went in much later, but looks much stronger, maybe there will be more than one cob??

I grew Minipop last year, which IMHO was a complete waste of time and space and so I sewed 'Tasty Gold' and now I've got two quite sizeable cobs forming on two of my seven plants. Tassels are still white at the moment, but I'm getting very excited.

I planted mine very early and I ate the first one yesterday - lovely.
          The variety is Swift.

From each according to his ability, to each according to his needs.

Ooh goody, I am growing Swift as well.

Can't wait to try my own home grown. Are they really that much sweeter than shop bought??

Have grown sweetcorn in earnest for the past 3 years (different varieties) and they've never grown very tall. This years are just over 2' tall and very sturdy and I noticed last night that the tassles are starting to form which made me happy! This years are Bicolour ones from Real Seeds which should look very pretty.

Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.

Which one are you and is it how you want to be?

Mine are bigger than me - no sign of any cobs or tassles or anything. Off to have a good look at them.

Yay I've finally got tassels! Just wondering how long it will take until the cobs will be ready for harvest now? And what to look for?

Yep, I totally agree. Didn't know any better last year (never grown them before) so left them until they looked like they were finished. Yuk. The only one that was edible was one I accidently broke off when I was inspecting it when it was small. Delicious. Ate it raw. Not much of it mind.
It's more economical to grow full sized ones as the minipop take up the same amount of space.
Wimbush, they are ready when the tassles have turned dark brown. You can also dig your nail into a kernal. If the liquid is creamy they are just right. Watery and it's too early. If it's thick and gunky looking (ie not oozing) then you have left it too late.
                        Hope that helps. Sandra

I have a couple of tassels that are now dark brown and there appears to be 2 quite chunky cobs forming underneath the leaves. Are the cobs totally hidden and you have to go investigate or do they begin to show themselves when they are ready?

Already 2 plot holders near us that have had all their cobs eaten by rats, we have planted ours through chicken wire in the ground, then chicken wire wrapped around the plants and mesh over the tops, after losing all cobs to rats the last 2 years. I hope we can hold them off for a week or so until I can pick - slight problem, o.h. built the cage without a way in for humans as well as rats!
