How much water should you give a cucumber plant?

I am growing a couple of cucumber plants, one tasty burpless and one retsina.

I think I have over watered a couple of the othe ones that I grew as they died on me.

Should I be watering them twice a day and if so how much each time, half a litre, a litre?

One is about 2 foot tall, the other about 8 inches.

I just water mine once a day and they are thriving....about 7 feet high at the moment. I have had 4 cucumbers so far and there are loads to come .

Put the water in the saucer and keep filling - any left over after half an hour after filling needs to be tipped out. It's the only way not to overwater plants.

If they are in a greenhouse like mine they need watering twice a day. Once the fruit have started growing they seem to get through huge amounts of water. I'd agree with zazen, if you have the pots in a tray or saucer and you end up with stagnant water in the tray you're giving them too much. Those Morrisons flower buckets are a little small for a cucumber and you'll probably have to feed them regularly as well.

Good in theory but my cucumber is HUGE I am not lifting it off the saucer, would put my back out!

Jings 21 Again - it all depends on where they growing, what they are growing in, what size they are and what the weather is like.
Basically don't let them dry out, keep them damp but not wet, but I can't see them so don't know if that means water 3 times a day or twice a week. But you can see them Sorry, you have to work this one out for yourself

Mine are in Morrisons flower buckets. They are in the greenhouse.I water once a day and they seem to be thriving.

When planted in the flower bucket I also place a length of plastic pipe (2" diameter) in the pot. This stands vertically to near the bottom of the compost. When pouring water into the pipe, it is delivered directly to the bottom of the pot. The pipe is filled with water (about half a litre) once or twice a day depending on the weather.

This works well and keeps water off the leaves and the cucs show little signs of wilting even on hot days.

Mine are outside in pots with an inverted plastic bottle in the pot and I water into the bottle which takes it to the roots rather than watering the top of the soil. I have no "saucers" big enough to stand the pots on.

It seems to be working ok TS, they are climbing steadily and it's quite a surprise considering this is my second attempt after planting them far too early and losing the first lot! What do you use for saucers?

I've tried everywhich way over the years and the pipe/pop bottle method produces easier watering and healthier plants for me.
