  • Cucumber questions

I've never grown cucumbers before (hardly surprising, as I can't stand the things. I mean seriously, if I want water I'll turn on the tap), but am growing a single 'Marketmore' plant this year in one of my growbags. for tehmizus

Do I understand correctly that they are not like corguettes in that they should not be pollinated, and will turn bitter if they do get pollinated? If so then:
    1) I spotted a male flower and pulled it off, but noticed that a female flower was already going as well. Is this fruit doomed?
    2) Aside from the obvious taste test, is there any way of telling if a fruit has been pollinated, so I can take them off the plant to let it conserve its energy?
    3) I have it in a growbag next to a corguette and an aubergine plant (see here). Will either of these cross pollinate the cucumber?

    TIA

Marketmore are an outdoor variety where you don't need to remove any of the flowers.
I am also growing that variety for the first time this year.
Pick them between 6 and 8 inches long.
I have harvested 2 so far and believe me you should try one! they are a very long way from the watery things you get in shops!
Lovely and fresh and crunchy with a proper flavour and no middle full of water syndrome

Oh cool, so I don't have to muck around patrolling it and killing off the male flowers?

No, Mine are in the GH. The ones in pots aere happier than the ones in the ground. I just keep an eye on their moisture level and admire the fruits they are forming
