I've been growing these up a trellis and there are quite a few pods being produced. But I'm not sure when these should be picked. Anyone have any idea?

I'd go for picking french bean pods at any point from about 4" in length.
What variety are they?Last edited by Hazel at the Hill; 03-07-2009, 12:35 AM.

I think that you can eat them fresh (i.e. 4" or so) or leave them till the autumn when the pods with go knobbly then dry to brown and papery when you can shell out the beans.
They'll store for ages, just remember that they will need soaking overnight & boiling up to remove the toxins.
You can also pick them when they are knobbly, but not dry - I think the Americans do this a lot, called shelly beans.
