  • Two questions - potatoes and garlic

    Hi there

I've got two questions and thought it would be easier to post them in the same thread.

I've planted some Cara potatoes which are now flowering and flowers are starting to fade. I thought these were earlies and so would be ready to harvest but I've had a look around online and it seems that these are maincrops. Can I harvest these now or do I have to wait?

I have recently harvested some garlic which has been very disappointing. The bulbs are tiny with only a few cloves. They are Solent White and I planted them last autumn. It's my first attempt at garlic but I'd like to try again this autumn. Does anyone have any tips for good garlic? Also will this garlic be safe to eat as some of the bulbs are hardly bigger than the cloves I intially planted!

    Thanks

Last year my potatoes got some sort of disease, possibly blight, possibly not, and my main crop died at about this time of the year. I dug them up and got what was essentially a good crop of earlies and they tasted good! In fact, they produced more and had better texture that this year's earlies.
