maggots in my peas

I'm so mad

Yesturday i picked just under 5kg of podded peas, rushed home to shell them only to find almost two thirds of them have magots inside.

This year is the first year in three that this has happened. I only sowed them 2 weeks later than previous years. What a waste.

I'm assuming that I shouldn't compost the pods (so even more of a waste) or would the maggot things die when in the compost.

of course they will die in the compost ... they will quickly run out of food (the pea) as it rots down

Haven't as yet had any problem with pea maggots, have had a good few peas but not one maggot. Have a load to pick today so will know later if any have appeared in the last few days. What variety were they marathon.

I've got a load, many more on my HSL trial peas than any of the others [interesting???].

I'm picking my non-heritage ones for eating, and leaving all the rest on the plant for drying. Any that don't get attacked will be stored for eating or saved for seed or sent back to the HSL.

We've had loads this year too,but thankfully it seems to be a great year for us as far as how abundant the harvest is,so it's kind of evening out!
Might not be too pleasant podding them & separating the maggotty ones from the good...even more annoying when you suddenly realise your chucking the good & putting the maggots in the pan!....but still I've never found a frozen pea that can compete with homegrown for taste!

They were KW. I've still got some eed lft so will sow some more but keep hem covered. I really wanted to have a good stoe of peas in the freezer but alas once again I have failed. Last year I didn't sow enough so year sowed enough but now it's compost

i always sow mine in march and then they flower towards the end of april and i generally miss the pea moth, another sowing in july and i generally miss it again....they are sprays out there you can use, i cover mine with fleece to give added protection, chuck em in the compost heap and sow some more!

Does anyone know what the most effective spray is that you can buy to prevent the pea moth
