Harvesting Lettice (mini gem)

My Lettices are almost ready, and looking like those in the supermarket - nice tight hard crowns.

Noob question, but do I harvest the crown only or the whole thing?

if you just take out the crown and leave some behind you'll get some fresh new growth but you might as well lift the whole thing and use the space for something else...like more lettuce

If it's a hearting lettuce, slice off the whole thing. If you leave the stump in the ground, a few more leaves will appear for another (small) meal.

With looseleaf lettuce, you can just take off the leaves you need and leave the rest to regrow.
