  • not impressed sweet peas in my peas!

im SO not impressed, just been told my tallest pea plant is a sweet pea! i wondered why it looked diffrent to the rest but as i havent grown anything before i didnt know... grrr must have been a mix up in the place that packs the seeds, ah well that will teach me for buying cheap seeds. now to concentrate on the other plants...

Poor Kerry, at least the sweetpeas are encouraging the pollinators to your plot, just keep picking the flowers so they don't set pods themselves.

they already have... hence i thought they were peas as well! it was only when different coloured flowers appeared i thought something was wrong! thought it was my best growing pea plant until then! doh

I'm assuming you know that sweet pea pods are poisonous but thought I'd check in case! Better safe than sorry.

sweet pea seeds are hard and dry arent they, whereas pea seeds look like peas?

Yes there is a big difference in the looks of sweet pea and eating pea seeds. Eating pea seeds look like peas (as Jardiniere said) although as seeds they will be dry and hard and can be either smooth or wrinkled. Sweet pea seed is smaller very round, hard and usually blackish or brown. Can't really miss identify the two, once you have the information.

Also the pods are different. Sweet pea pods are slightly hairy and certainly don't look appetizing
