People talk about using soapy waer to get rid of blackfly. Is it fairy liquid water or something else (if you know what I mean) and does it still work if you can only hand water? also what quantities are we talking about?

I use Tesco's washing up liquid! 69p a bottle if I remember correctly.
I tiny squirt in a recycled hand spray bottle, topped up with water.
I've been using it successfully on my pepper plants and it also makes the greenhouse smell nice!My Majesty made for him a garden anew in order

I would offer a word of warning against the really cheap spray bottles!
Maybe it's just my bad luck but I must have bought over a dozen in the last year or so and they ALL have just stopped working after a short while. Some of them never even started working!
I've bought them from a few different places and always had the same problem.
About a month ago I bought two of these from 'The Range' for £3.99 each and they are fantastic!
I keep one for plain water (for misting aubergines and the like) and one for my diluted washing up liquid and chilli powder mix.
I love 'em!Attached Files
