  • Couple of questions, bit of a novice newbie

My 2nd year trying to grow my own veg.
I recently managed to harvest a hand full of Turnips and a hand full of peas, although I think i left my peas hanging a little long, the stalk has slowly been dying bottom upwards but I left it for a couple of weeks to try and get a couple of extra pods ripe as the top half of the stalk looked healthy. What do you think went wrong there?
Tried pulling up a carrot but was a bit to small for my liking so I think I'll leave them another week or two, is this a good idea?
Sorry just one more question for now. I planted a few shooting potatoes I had in the cupboard around March/April I think they were Desiree. Just an experiment really. I think one lot got Blight, leaves yellowed and died, pulled them up and had a few potatoes the size of a gob stopper and dead roots. A couple of potato plants sitting next to them are looking fine and grown well but not showing any signs of flowering, is this normal, how long should I leave them?

you need to pick peas when they are ready. If you leave them, the plant stops producing and dies. It's done its job you see

it wasn't blight, it was normal growth and death. The spuds were small because they weren't fed/watered enough.
Blight is a stinking, rotten black plague.

Roughly 13-16 weeks from planting. Not all potatoes produce flowers.
Don't let them dry out too much.

To check your peas i simply press on the pod if the pod feels firm with little or no space inside the pod then pick them.
With carrots just move the soil around the top of the root this will give you a view of the diameter of the carrot root if the root looks like a good size then pull one. Just make sure there is a nice space between each carrot to allow them to reach their mature size.
