  • What varieties for this year?

    ok, so im fresh from ordering my seasons veg, and felt an thread on the different varieties would give air to some conversation.

    so here goes!

    Mixed Lettuce Leaves
    Lambs Lettuce 'Jade'
    Radish 'French Breakfast 3'
    Lettuce 'Balmoral'

    Spring Onion 'Rossa Lunga di Firenze'
    Spring Onion 'White Lisbon'

    Parsnip 'Patriot'
    Carrot 'Rainbow'

    Tomato 'Cream Sausage'
    Tomato 'Costoluto Fiorentino'
    Tomato 'Black Russian'

    Chilli 'Pepper 'Cayenne'

    no fruit yet decided on, but this is for starters.

    Veggie order

    Hi Socks
    Have submitted my veggie seeds orders and received from one supplier, still waiting on other to deliver. Fairly basic and traditional varities but here goes (tomatoes omitted as not yet decided on varieties)
    French Bean - Blue Lake
    Runner Bean - Polestar
    Peas - Alderman
    Parsnips - Tender & True, Gladiator
    Carrots - Early Nantes 5, Maestro
    Cabbage - Traviata,Minicole,Tundra
    Leek - Musselburgh
    Beetroot - Boltardy
    Cauliflower - Idol (miniature)
    Calabrese - Hydra
    Shallot - Golden Gourmet
    Spring Onion - White Lisbon
    Onion - Setton
    Lettuce - Little Gem, Lollo Rossa, All The Year Round

    Also Cucumber - Topsy

    My beds will runneth over (I hope) as will my greenhouse, my coldframe and any space that I can find in my flower beds !! All we need now is March to happen!

      the cabagae variety Traviata is an interesting one, i have some on the kitchen windowsill under a 'trial', using different types of seed compost and trying to steal a march on, well, march!

      i attempted to grow some over xmas but i think it was asking a bit much from them.

        Radar & Electric winter onions (growing nicely)
        Hative shallots
        The prince dwarf french beans
        Butler Runners
        Sungold runners (nice golden leaves for decoration & beans)
        Bridgette sprouts
        Wellington sprouts
        those red jobs free with GYO
        Pixie
        Minicole
        Robin
        All year round lettuce
        Webbs (as a cyber geek gardner I had to have these)
        Kelsae - onions
        Mammoth red
        Canto
        Peas - Greenshaft (most of these never make it home !)
        Winston - Spuds
        Charlotte
        Rocket
        Kestrel (maybe)
        Maxine
        Picasso
        Aquadulce broad beans
        Tomatoes (see other posting)

        100 dahlias & spray chrysanths

        plus a few flowers to brighten the place up.
