Crop Rotation With Planters???

Hello all

I am relatively new to gardening and have a small yard which means that my crops are all in planters or pots.

I have my potatos in potato planter sacks and my plan is to plant a second late autumn / winter potato crop.

My question is how do i deal with crop rotation?

I have 3 potato planters each containing cicra 60 litres of compost. Do i really need to rotate? Do i need to somehow store the compost for use next year with a different crop and buy new compost for the potatos?

I really appreciate any advice or suggestions.

You really need new compost or boost the current compost with manure or something like that.
It's not a good idea to re-use it for potatoes because all the nutrients it had in it will have been taken up by the potatoes. You can get away with using it for lettuce or something like that as lettuce doesn't need much in the way of nutrients.

No need to rotate if you use fresh compost each year. You can re-use the compost from one crop if you plant a follow on...say lettuce or spring onions after the potatoes. Not a good idea to re-use the compost for another crop of spuds as it will be exhausted.

No need to crop rotate if you're growing in containers. But yes, you do need fresh compost as it will be exhausted after a season.

I've been re using last years compost in fishboxes/containers by adding a complete fertilizer to it , I grew some salad leaves in two containers one with brand new compost and one with last years with added fertilizer. So far there is little difference between them - should know when we start eating them some time this week! As I understand things the compost is only a medium for the plant to grow its roots into and feed from the nutrients carried within, if the compost is depleted or washed out, most plants would not be able to grow to their best potential.
