You can do it in whatever you want; as long as they can be labelled so that you can track each day's sowings right through until the end.

It's only a week away now - how scarey is that?????

Am going to have a go but have a problem of going away for two weeks. Just wondering how the OH will feel about me taking seeds and seed trays on holiday. Going in the caravan so is possible.

I'm going to give this a go - I've already caught the bug from you and for the first time have sown seed into modules that are now about an inch and a half. It also gives me another good excuse for pinching more of the lawn, thanks!

Any time; it can be quite addictive - growing onions. It's when you start talking to anonymous people about the pros and cons of seeds vs sets that the reality of the situation starts to kick in.

Only a week to go from tomorrow!!!

I'm looking forward to taking part in this trial, whether we prove anything about moon planting remains to be seen, but at least we should end up with onions - win win.

Yup, less than a week to go.

Gonna nab some fresh organic compost today, get the modules out, and counted, and labelled all ready; and some fresh seed [although I have loads, I want a new fresh packet for this], and put it all out with the soil already in the modules so the work is minimal.

I'll start a thread with the details about it all this week; all ready to go for the 1st Sept.

Just hoping HW is still ok to note down every day's moon phase.............

                YAY!!!!!

I'm a bit late in seeing this thread so apologies for this question, but isn't the moon planting meant to work because of the gravitational pull of the moon on the groundwater? If so planting in modules won't work. Or am I wrong about that?

Pull of the water - it doesn't have to be attached to the ground. This is why we do trials

i've just discovered this as well.....to overwinter the onions in a greenhouse....is that a heated or unheated one?.
i'm curious, concerned i wont have the discipline to sow daily, feel ok on the recording...i like that side of things, and am concerned about where they would live over winter. i have a small plastic growhouse on the allotment which would be against the shed getting the maximum amount of sun possible, but is obviously unheated. if i kept them here where i'm staying(and will be over winter) they will probably fry in the heat of this house....even with my radiator turned down to 2!.

hmmm....very interested the more i think about it.....might pop up and get a packet of seeds anyway!!.

Andrea I have a question too?

With Moon Planting, is it important to get the right day for transplanting and harvesting as well as the initial sewing? Or does it not matter by that stage? I've always wondered.

Mine are just in my unheated greenhouse over winter; and then out into the lottie in the spring. Once the frost date is over.

April also has 30 days, so i might work out which moon day corresponds with the 1st sept moon day and then plant out one module each day for the 30 days which will cover most of April and into a bit of May possibly.

Aah, the joys of working through a trial

PB: it is best to get the same day, but as this is a blind test we would have to rely on someone telling us which day to start on; I think I'll work it out beforehand which day matches the first sowing and we can go from there. I'll produce a timetable.
