micro greens

hi there,my first posting on this forum.i am interested in trying micro greens as in july issue of GYO.has anyone else tried it ?any tips please

Hello Goddess, welcome to the Vine. I'm not sure what you mean by micro greens as can't remember what was in the July issue of GYO. Do yo mean mini vegetables ? I'm no expert there but planning to try them myself. Please come back with your question and maybe we can be of more help with the question.

micro greens

micro greens are (so the article say)like sprouting seeds with a pair of leaves.the article say you can grow it in compost or soiless medium.iam planning to use opened packets of seeds as an experiment & already soaked some beetroot seeds tonight to harvest in 7-10 days time.i hoped that someone can advice regarding light, tem,water..etc requirements

Hi goddess and welcome to the vine. I tried them in the summer and they were fab, I just grew them as though they would be seedlings to transplant. I am trying some again now as sprouting seeds. If you have a sunny windowsill and look for Nick's thread about the reflective thingy you could try them in some compost. That's my next experiment. They may need some bottom heat, I'm not sure. Although the article said they were grown all year round.

I've not tried the sprouting seeds myself, but they do look interesting, please share your experiences and let us all know how you get on!

thanks guys for your welcome and advice. i found an old mag today with an article on sprouting ,it says you don't need soil to grow them in but kitchen towel will do.my experiment is going well as beetroot seeds are already sprouting in airing cuboard .will keep you posted.g

as for the micro greens, I've put some "Mesclun" (french salad mix) on kitchen towel and it is germinating in the cupboard. Will keep you posted.

just to let you know that i found a website with comprehensive instructions.its www.sproutpeople.com
as for my experiment the beetroot seeds tasted delicious but needed alot of watering.i will try again using vermiculite rather than cottonwool as the lining of tray.g
