  • Longest lasting potato

Anyone any knowledge on which is the best potato for long term storage and is it possible to keep them into spring?
My potatoes will last me until Christmas dinner (just) and it will be a sad day when I actually have to go out and buy some.

      HI Sue,

I stored Charlottes from August until Febuary last year. This year I have grown Binjte which are supposed to keep for 9 months and I will be interested to see if they do. I lifted tham in August, it depends on the storage conditions I suppose

I grow Picasso every year & that stores OK in my shed - that having been said, they are sooo good this year we've eaten loads of them & they may not last as long a last time at this rate

We stored Valor and Arran Victory from October digging to Feb. The desirees are looking ok, dug in September and should last till Jan/Feb unless we eat them all first.

Hoping to have more next year to avoid the shopping for them thingy. Would be good to have them last till first earlies. However we are storing first earlies parboiled and tossed in butter in the freezer for roasting from frozen, works a treat. *licks lips and drools*

You've reminded me, forgot I'd frozen some, but didn't do the par-boiled thing, that sounds a very good idea for next year,
Well, you've all given me some good names to add to my potato order, looks like you could last till February and keep going with frozen ones till the first earlies.
            Many thanks
