Chard Question..?

First time growing Chard...does it have a Beetroot type root..?..and can it be eaten too..?..pic attached.

Me thinks you have a rogue beetroot in amonst your chard seed. What variety of chard did you sow - it doesn't usually have anything other than leaf growth.

That looks like beetroot to me Braders,
Chard is grown for the leaves and the ribs and I've never seen it with a bulbous root.
But if you're disappointed you can cook the beetroot leaves in the same way as chard.

Have checked out Red Titan - it seems that it may well produce a builbous root but that this is only suitable for animal fodder - so stick to eating the leaves and you'l be right

I agree with you NOG but have never seen this variety before so quite possible I suppose - after all bulls blood beetroot is grown only for the leaf and not the bulb.

If it is classed as animal fodder then it probably won't be very palatable. Maize is a good example.
