Carrot question

I have just started lifting some carrots - the first that I have managed to grow for years without them being destroyed by the carrot root fly.

But some have green cores. Why? Am I lifting them too soon?

I've never come across that before?! Green shoulders/tops come from them being exposed to the light, but never seen green cores Am wondering if maybe they were preparing to throw up a seed head?

Hmmmm - sow seeds, carrots grow, foliage is exposed to sunlight!! Tops of some carrots are just showing above ground - I'll check if those are the green cored ones.

Sorry, I meant the root being exposed to sunlight, not the foliage. It's not easy to prevent this, unless you go along earthing them up a bit.

Sorry - misunderstood! Yes - I have noticed that the tops of some of the carrots are above soil level. I'll check if those are the affected ones.
