Black Patches on otherwise heathy looking tomatoes.

Hi All

I have discovered black patches on the underside of several tomatoes on one or two plants. Not all are affected. The plants are in pots all around the garden as they were originally destined for the greenhouse which is still in construction..... Are they diseased ?

Any help appreciated.

Sounds like 'blossom end rot', very common and caused by erratic watering. Think there's loads on here about it if you do a little search. Doesn't mean they will all be like that so don't panic!

I have had the odd one or two with blossom end rot. Which has not been a problem,its like a wake up call to me to be more consistent with the watering. The fruits of course have to be binned.

Thanks - it was probably the the erratic watering while we were away on holiday - but at least they didn't die!!!

I normally have the first ones off the big plants with B.E.R. Then I get my you-know-what into gear and change the watering habits and then don't get any more!

Cherry toms suffer from it far less so I sowed many more of these this year instead.
