Wasnt sure where to post this one but felt I really had to postit anyway.
I'm growing legend beefsteak and one other variety in my placie greenhouse
( not sure re the other one as I naughtily lost the label/packet).
This week I have had a couple of beafsteak toms ripen ( just one at a time how selfish of them) , so I decided to cut them up and try them on their own for flavour.
I think it's quite well known if you but in the supermarket the big variety toms are less flavoursome than cherries and other smaller ones so I expected lots of size but not 'the greatest ' of flavour. However I cut up a legend and ate it and just could not believe how sweet and deep in flavour they were. I was telling my other half who does not eat anything at all with chunks of tomato in and hasnt eaten a tom in the 20 years I have known her and she said ,
" go on give me a tiny bit " .
Well I did and she gingerly chewed it then proclaimed " ohh that's delicious ".
After i picked myself up off the floor I questioned her and she said it was jsut a lovely flavour.
Now we all know home grown can taste a lot better than supermarket rubbish but this is agenuine story and I still think an amazing one.
I have loads of toms on the palnts now but most of them well green but I cant wait for the rest to start ripening up as I too thought that the toms so far have been delicious. I also wonder if other grapes have had such drastic results from folk tasting their wares .
Cheers Mas
