I was wondering as my Tomato plants in the greenhouse have turned out like Triffids and i am expecting my raised bed in the greenhouse to be overwhelmed with tomato root systems would it be ok to replace the soil with a mixture of homemade compost and used compost from my potatoes as i will have 3 compost bags that i have potatoes in full of used compost

If it was me I wouldn't. Apparently Tomatoes and Potatoes are related and suffer from the same kind of afflictions so you could be making problems for yourself.

what should used potato compost be used for then? can something else be grown in it?

on it's own, lettuce or chard/spinach kind of thing. Or put it on your beds/on your ground where you're not growing potatoes or tomatoes for a few years.

I don't know how scientifically or agriculturally (??) correct this is but I've rebagged my potato bag compost with a few spade fulls of horse poop. Am I right in assuming that this compost will be re invigorated for next year?

I've used mine to fill pots for beans and carrots, the rest I will fling in a few handfusl of chicken poo pellets and fork it into the borders as it is very heavy clay there. (veg part of garden is much better soil after years of digging and soil improving.)

ChrisG, you still shouldn't use it for potatoes, or tomatoes, even if it's 'reinvigorated'.

Mine will be used for improving the soil of the bed which has also grown potatoes this year, thus staying within the rotation plan. If it's got to be used in containers, you can use it to grow any of the other veg groups, with the addition of some extra nutrients.

I always use fresh compost for tomatoes. Used potato compost can be used almost anywhere else as a soil conditioner. If you are going to use it for another crop then put some chicken pellets or growmore in to feed the new crop.

I've used mine as a mulch round my runners and courgettes.

Great question, as I'm new to this growing at home, thing. I've grown spuds in bags and in the ground and was wondering what was best to do with the used compost from the bags. I was contemplating rejuvenating the compost and putting another crop of spuds in to be ready by December and then dig that compost into the ground where I planted my other spuds, later, say Dec or early Jan.
Now though, I think I'll keep it until I've harvested the spuds that are in the ground and then dig it in there.
