Folks next door bought one of these decorative chillies from the supermarket last month and were asking me if you can eat the fruits off it. I wasn't sure as the plants are sold as decoration and don't have the proper name on the label, but I've never heard of poisonous chillies before. Anyone got any thoughts on this?

Threre are a few varieties that aren't edible (can't remember which though), i wouldn't eat them - just to be on the safe side.
Suggest that they grow an ornamental type next summer (such as fiesta/etna/prairie fire etc) thats also edibe and overwinter it in the house? There's vegetable growing in the family, but I must be adopted

our friends who live in a small flat have bought ornimental chillies because of their size and have eaten them for years, and they are delicious if a little small and quite mild, my advice would be get the person who has a strong stomach to try them and see how it goes, if they get a dodgy tum give it up, if not go fo for it, most ornimentals are just smaller versions of the real thing.
but be carefull.
if your carefull the worst that can happen is a bit of runny bum for a day.
worth finding out tho shame to let edibles go to waste.Yo an' Bob

Till i got my new job i was in the retail food industry, aparently we were responsible for known allergic reactions, i.e you know your allergic to egg, you order a burger off the menu that says with mayonase its the retailers fault cos your dum enough not to know that mayo contains eggs.Yo an' Bob
