white rot

I've been lifting my garlic over the last couple of weeks as it seems ready. I've had a couple (out of about 25 lifted so far) that appear to have a touch of white rot. One I had to bin (when I tried to eat it a couple of weeks after lifting), the other I've skinned and kept the cloves (all healthy looking) for immediate consumption.

So, my question is are there other less serious fungal diseases that might cause these symptoms? The two bulbs were both, arguably, in the ground too long and a loss rate of 1 in 25 I can cope with. They haven't obviously had any problems in growing.

Royal Horticultural Society - Gardening Advice: Onion White Rot - found this on the RHS website - doesn't look too promising. Are you sure it's white rot?

No, I'm not sure. I've googled some pictures and it does look a bit like it, but my garlic is hardly a scene of devastation. Perhaps I'll really find out in two or three year when the alliums go back into that bit!

I suppose the white rot could have been imported with the two affected cloves at planting time?
Warm and wet weather are ideal conditions for any fungal growths so this year could be quite bad!

If it is white rot and I hope it isnt then you are not supposed to grow alliums in that space for the next > 15 years or so.
