  • Planting late carrots

    Hi guys,

Have had a very successful year so far with carrots (must be the netting and coffee grinds I think). Have read that it is possible to seed a short rooted carrot variety out this month for lifting in October to December, as long as I put them under cloches from October.

Can anyone recommend a good, tasty variety please? Also, what success have any of you had with seeding a carrot this late on?

    Many thanks

I've done a few late sowings of autumn king and might well try some nantes to over winter in the gaps that are starting to appear.

Parmex is a very tasty variety with a spherical root. It is also supposed to be resistant to carrot root fly, but only if you lift them young. Left in to get bigger they often succumb to it.
