  • My empire increases........

We were in garden yesterday and I casually mentioned how we could easily 'lose' another 3 - 4ft of lawn to the veggie patch.

it makes sense, children all grown up and rarely venture into garden let alone play in it, and it means less grass to mow..

today the lawn , tomorrow the world..........................

Unfortunately mine are all 13 and under and OH insists on keeping the lawn.

Saying that the chickens do scratch up a fair bit of it and I suppose eventually it might well need turning over

I'd love to dig up some of our lawn but we need it to dry out the tent when we've been camping.

When we first moved to this house it had a huge overgrown garden, but with a lot of blood, sweat and tears we gradually turned it to a large lawned area with flower beds and trees. We reserved another big area at the end as a vegetable garden and had many happy years growing our own produce. Then the grandchildren started arriving We wanted a nice safe area for them to play where we could erect swings, a slide and playhouse. We really didn't want all this cluttering up the main garden so reluctantly decided the veggie patch had to go It worked very well for a few years but then we started getting frustrated and longed for our own veggies again. We started digging up small areas of the play area (involving the grandchildren in planting seeds) and gradually bit by bit we've recovered our vegetable patch, sneakily moving the toys to one corner. At the moment the kids are quite happy with this as they get such a thrill seeing their plants grow but I wonder how long before they notice if we dispose of the swings
