  • Tomato advice needed!!

    Hi all

This year we have managed to grow our tomatoes outside on our allotment. And eat them!!
We have no greenhouse there you see.

In the past all have fallen to the dreaded blight so we have never as yet consumed these little delights.

My only question is, though they taste wonderful the skins are a little tough. Is this due to being outside or is there something we have done wrong.

We are hoping we will do well again next year and as I said the taste is great but how do we stop the skins being tough.
    thanks

It does not matter what our specific fate is as long as we face it with ultimate abandon.

oddly, I have found my tomato skins to be much softer than the shop-bought toms, which was a pleasant surprise.

A couple of reasons for tough skins can be infrequent watering or they are in light that is too bright - either of these fit your situation?

My outside toms have much tougher skins than those in the GH.

My outside ones always have thicker skins which may partly be down to me growing different varieties but I believe that the conditions play a significant role also.

Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.

Which one are you and is it how you want to be?

I was eating some of my outdoor Toms tonight and I noticed the skins seemed tougher than previous years......how odd!

They are living the tough life - not like those coddled in a greenhouse! That's why they are thicker I think.
