Tomatoes high's and low's

Tumbling tom red and yellow:- Grew these for the first time this year. Found them to be very productive but really quite bland.

Gardeners delight:- Lived upto there name! Really good trusses of very tasty fruits.

Golden Sunrise:- Nice firm flavoured medium sized fruits. Took a bit longer to start ripening though.

Next year I'm going to try Sun Gold, San Mazano, Big Boy, 100's & 1000's, Marmande and definitely Gardener's Delight again.

What have you guys found to be productive with good flavours? And what have you found to be a waste of time?

Galina - a yellow cherry I got from Real Seeds. They were the first to ripen and the only ones that didn't get knackered by blight. And they're beaut. I don't normally like raw toms but these were lovely. I did some other varieties and while a few have ripened/still ripening, they were mostly blighted, but will try again next year, only ALL under cover.

Only grew three varieties this year.

Sungold - excellent
Gardener's Delight - turned out not to be GD, but nice tasty fruit anyway
Sunstream - plum tomato seed scraped out of a tomato I bought at Tesco. Plants are doing well, just starting to ripen so no taste test yet.

We love Cream Banana, a yellow plum tom. with loads of fruit and flavour. Although we both love Marmande, for two years it has been a disappointment in this area so I shan't bother with them next year.

Sungold - lovely & sweet, the best taste but too small (need huge pots next year)
Gardeners Delight - still not ripe
Juliet - 1st to ripen, from mid Feb sowing

Didn't grow anything unusual this year stuck to alicante, gardeners delight moneymaker and tumbling tom. Tumbling tom has done well as has gardeners delight. I'm still awaiting the first tomatoes from moneymaker and alicante, they are however fully loaded with fruit.

Red Alert - lovely and quite productive
Yellow Balconi - just starting to ripen now - had my first taste yesterday - these are lovely. Small bush tomato that I have grown in hanging baskets companion planted with basil - a fiendishly good combination - thank you Toby Buckland.
Sweet Millions - just coming through now - quite small fruit with an OK flavour
Gardener's Delight - probably my favourite. Super flavour and very productive despite my best efforts!

Olivade (Plum) - Early fruiting and ripened before all others, lovely flavour, will definitely grow again.
Ildi - struggling to ripen
Sweet Million - Prolific crop and quite good flavour
Roma - Still green
Amish Paste - 50% of fruit suffered from blossom end rot and the rest still green.
Marmande - struggling to ripen plus two toms with blossom end rot. Might try a different beef variety next year.
Tumbling Tom red - still green
Tumbling Tom yellow - reasonable crop and flavoursome.
Shirley F1 - substantial number of toms. Just beginning to colour up.

All of these were grown outside.

100's and 1000's - very prolific, and very, very tasty (very small toms)

Gartenperle - Tumbler, heavy cropping but bland. They also have quick a pink rather than tomato red colour.

Tigerella - Just ripening so only had one but it was the best of the lot in terms of taste.

All my other are collected seeds from yellow and red plumbs, which look good but haven't ripened yet

I have tigerella, and they are lovely! I also have GD which are always a safe bet for great toms.
In my seed stash from the wyevale sale I bought a multipack of italian tom seeds including san marzano, so I will have a few new ones next year, oh and a I also got a packet of 100's and 1000's too which I am excited about!

My tigerellas are gorgeous and in the greenhouse have been fruiting for ages. I've grown Brandywine too, which has produced 1lb+ individuals. One slice per sandwich! Tasty too.
I love black cherry - a mahogany colour rather than black but the taste is true tomato.
I have other toms in the greenhouse which are still to ripen so more reports to follow.

Yellow cherry plum tom - by far my best cropper and flavour!
Roma as always nice
GD - first of the normal size toms to ripen
My beefsteaks - not been too good this year and don't think I'll bother with next year
Marmande that's not a marmande - lovely Toms ( note to self to save some of these!)
Banana Cream - nice
Lemon tree - Double nice
Christmas Grape - Dissapointing yield
Brown berry - not bad
Black cherry tesco( not sure on type) Lovely and loads of toms
Orange pixie - dissapointing
Tigrella - still not ripe
Cherokee - just starting to ripen

14 tomato plants, 7 varieties - had total of 8 cherry toms so far this year - very poor
there are a lot of green ones tho, so hopefully they'll ripen on the plants sometime soon

i have one of each in the greenhouse, one of each outside - all are poor, but greenhouse ones are much bigger plants with a lot more fruit

roma plum toms were poor last year, poor again this year, not going to bother next year

Growing Aurora (nice flavour, lots of toms), Black Russian (none ripe yet, not that many tomatoes on plant. On the other hand though few in number they do seem quite large) and Gartenperle (very sweet, but very few - but then I did put them in a rather small hanging basket and they've dried out umpteen times so maybe more productive when treated more kindly).

Also got a Sungold plant for my mother as she loves them - I took a few sideshoots off before I gave it to her, so I'm hoping I'll get a few tomatoes off those before the end of the season. I grew that last year and it was great despite the horrid weather - lovely sweet little tomatoes and lots of them.
