growing season marching on

Definately a change in the weather in Aberdeenshire. Getting darker and cooler earlier in the evenings and the air has a different smell.. Have hundreds and hundreds of little hoverflies buzzing all over the flowerbeds on this perfect warm sunny day. Harvesting the allotment and trying to work out this complicated crop rotation business which I have never needed to do before, and work out from the HUGE choice which varieties of veg to grow next year.

I'd quite like to grow a large fluffy potato which I can bake and a broad bean which gives a really good yield. ANy suggestions for an easy rotation system and broad bean name ?

I like Super Aquedulce myself. 5 or so beans per pod, very winter hardy. My new favourite baked potato is Druid

I think your right Shirley, high summer is over and autumn is coming in. The nights are drawing in and the temperature goes more quickly.
As for those hoverflies, well I think I've got thousands - amounting to a plague this year. I know they're harmless and beneficial but as soon as I open a window they're swarming into the house. Real nuisance. I suppose I'll have them to the first frost - hope that's a long time.
