Here are a couple of piccies of the 2006 onion crop from seed, in one of them you can see the banana shallot seed crop. The seed was sown in very early January

Ooh, I spotted some of those shallots the other day - might have been Lidl just before xmas - they looked great. Will have to go back and buy a few for seed.

I got all my seed pots from www.alanromans.com last year and ordered this year's from him in Dec. Onion and shallots I got from Kings seeds. Have saved a batch of shallots to replant this year. Am intending on sowing onions at the end of Jan into 48 module trays I got from www.lbsgardendirect.co.uk last year. No idea of the varieties though - I need to go dig through my seed fridge and sort out everything first.

Doesn't help being 8 and a half months pregnant either...

I child-proofed my house, but they still manage to get in.

                      Onions from seed

I grew Red Baron from seed last year and had fantastic success. A bit of a pain planted them all out and I took Geoff Hamilton's advise when i got bored and planted them in a clump and harvested like shallotts. Big talking poing having red pickled onions

Ah, had forgotten about planting onion seed. Have some Bedfordshire Champion to try. Donated by my mum who picked up a huge wodge of seeds at a car boot last summer. Was thinking about making space for the propagator yesterday so that's another job reminded of. What else to plant in heat now?????

                              Onions from seed ...

Ok, you clever grapes - I've a packet of onion seed (Ailsa Craig) but have already about 3 zillion onion sets to go out.....my question is, can I sow the Ailsa Craig and pull them as spring onions, or should I go the whole hog and buy a bicycle, stripy top and a beret?
