  • Advice on radish varieties please

I would appreciate advice on radish varieties - we love the crisp peppery ones.
Thanks, Sue (PS - been out and cut the grass today - sunshine, garden smells and birds tweeting -lovely!)

    From small seeds

Mirabell and gaudry are good (any of cylindrical ones are great, tried a more traditional shape the other year - did not like them). Plant them between your potatoes and get that crop before the spuds come in!

Hi Suee. You asked a good question in "membership numbers going up".
I thought it deserved it's own thread.

Thanks for the radish tips Andrew - will get the seed catalogues out from under the bed ( potatoes chitting away on top of wardrobe thanks to Geordie's advice - basil and tumbling toms seeds in propogator on window sill - and I've been promoted to a new thread - what a lovely day!). Problem: getting wellies off quick enough to get back to computer!!

ive got some 'french breakfast 3' ordered, ive not planted any just yet, but toying with the idea of a few pots on the windowsill.

they are quite a long variety so good for slicing into salads!

Re Sue's idea for radishes on the window sill. Is this possible?
I quite like the young radish leaves in a mixed salad - I assume they are ok to eat?

In the same vein - A friend of mine came home one day to find what she thought was a small bag of radishes on her doorstep. She did nibble one, but didn't like the taste. They were actually blue bell bulbs! I don't leave anything on her doorstep now without a post it note on them!
                  ~
Aerodynamically the bumblebee shouldn't be able to fly, but the bumblebee doesn't know that so it goes on flying anyway.

                    Radishes

Yes, you can grow them on a windowsill, they only have shallow roots, and will do well. I plant mine between my potatoes and get two crops before the spuds poke through. You can certainly eat the leaves and the roots, the chinese use them in cooking. Never tried them though.
