Rescue Remedy?

Evening all
New to sprouts, I bought some plants from a nursery and planted them 3 weeks ago. I gave them plastic bottle cloches and crossed my fingers as I thought the stems looked a bit "woody". Two of the plants have been stripped by slugs, so I pulled them up, but to my dismay found that the roots were still in the shape of the modules they had been grown in. Should I have teased them out? I did water them well before planting and puddled them in. Is there a rescue remedy, or shall I pull them all up and start again?

If they were brussel sprouts it was probably running a bit late to do anything with anyway. By the sounds of the woody stems they'd been kept too long in the modules and got pot bound. My sprouts failed in the same way as I had no where to put them until I cleared some earlier crops - they've hardly grown and are very small for sprouts , I'll leave them in as we might get some leaves or shoots off them over the winter and spring, next year I'll plan space for them when they need it!

Couldn't cover the area with fleece to protect them from the pesky cabbage whites obviously misdirected TLC because I should have known they were pot bound. Is it too late to get sprout plants?
