  • Harvest Totals so far

OH has been weighing the harvest and keeping a spreadsheet.

Totals so far for the heavy croppers
    Courgettes 6540g
    Runner beans 5285g
    Cherry Toms 8770g
    Large toms 1385g
The value column for these items shows £80 with tomatoes at £50 and all still going strong.
    Lettuce - loads
    Apples - loads
    Greengages - loads
And smaller amounts of beetroot, celery, garlic, broccoli and aubergine.
Still to come - squashes, sweetcorn, leeks, still more toms and salad, peppers and chillis.

I am amazed at the amounts this first year so have got the bug :

Courgettes, peas and French beans none of it weighed unfortunately. I said to myself at the beginning of this year I should weigh my produce, and probably will say the same next year!

i only weighed my strawberries, cos i was astounded at the amounts i was picking. dont have that info to hand tho i reckon is was around 4kg in the end. the rest of the stuff i havent weighed, because apart from the spuds i am still struggling with the right number of plants to grow.....e.g, the french beans, i only planted about 6 plants per variety(3), and still generally only picked enough per pick for one meal.

I only lift crops as I require them as I think they loose a lot of flavour after the first couple of hours. No idea what the weights are but reckon on a half full carrier bag a day during the summer and every 5 days during the winter!

This is something I've been meaning to do for ages, but never seem to get round to. I have been trying to keep a record this year in my diary - must set up a spreadsheet.

I've hardly weighed anything, but the thing I've had the most of this year is French Beans. I reckon I've harvested more than a kilo every time so must be around 8 - 10kg by now. My freezer is groaning with them, and a lot I'm leaving to dry/save seed now because there's no room for any more

I am like most people and always start the seaso with the intention of good planning and making a note of expenses and weighing all the crops to see how the balance sheet comes out at the end of the year. I started well this year and recorded all the expenses at the start but by the time of the first harvest in april it had all gone by the wayside. Still as the saying goes there is always next year. Have had some good crops especially strawberries, charlotte potatoes, peas, cucumbers, turnips and cabbages. Have had enough of courgettes, squash, tomatoes, runner beans and beetroot. Looking forward to good crops of winter cabbage, leeks and parsnips.

Haven't reall been weighing things as I go along but today I picked 1.5 kilos of ripe tomatoes, 1.2 kilos runner beans, 800 grammes french beans.
The courgettes seem to be slowing somewhat but we've been eating well off all these crops for some time now so I can't imagine how much we've had in total. I've been having to give tomatoes away to friends so they don't spoil! Lovely feeling though considering I lost the lot to blight for the last 2 years, and yes the majority are growing outdoors

I only tend to weigh those things that are sold by weight in the shops but so far have had 76 lbs of spuds, 27lbs of toms and 11 lbs of carrots. Other stuff too much to mention but 19 bunches of spring onions and 18 cucumbers gives an idea. I'm keeping a list and noting average shop prices, trying to convince OH that it really does make economic sense to grow your own...apart from the health benefits. At the end of the season I'll post my results with my total expenditure.

I haven't weighed much as i also tend to pick what we will eat that day, however I know that I've used over 6lb of runner beans and have given at least the same amount away. Even at the cheap market price for runners, they've paid for the allotment rent oon their own.

oh I never weigh anything, it takes the fun out of it. I'd say courgettes are the best followed by pumpkins and squashes. We will have millions of squashes to see us through the winter. ohhh silly me, I forgot plums, we have millions and millions of them. Victorias, lovely and sweet, I am working my way through a pile now!
