  • Onion sets keeping time?

I was about to order some overwintering onion sets but have just discovered about half a packet of radars from last year (didn't have enough room to plant them all). Will those sets still be ok to plant this year, they have been kept dry an there is no signs of sprouting (don't know if that's a good or bad thing).

The thrifty part of me says "bung 'em in" but the paranoid part says "waste of time and space if they don't grow".

    Any thoughts?

I'd have a good feel and if they are still hard and not squishy or dried out, I'd pop them in. If you are pushed for space, put them in closer and see what happens. You can always transplant some the spring to give the others more room if they grow.

Or, pop them into modules and see if anything happens, and if it does - then put them into the ground. They will have good root systems by then as well.
