  • What did you eat today?

I had potatoes, brussel tops, carrots, chard and onions from the Lottie with fresh raspberries and blackberries for pud!
I also made a veggie lasagne for tomorrow with green and yellow courgettes, chard and tomatoes all home grown (not the pasta of course!).

I just polished off 3 Chicken Fajitas with various lettuces from the garden, red onion, rice, mayo and green tomato relish made from garden produce. The relish was particularly good and I'm very tempted to go make some more fajitas!

I'm trying to clear my cupboards and freezer out so had pasta in cheesy sauce and stewed apples with fruit jelly.........only pasta milk and cheese was purchased in the making of my dinner; the rest was home grown or gifted to us.

              Breakfast...
a pack of smoked streaky bacon with a couple of eggs for breakfast ( from shop ) ( with a few home grown spring onions fried with the bacon )
then couple of `irish peach`apples from the garden

then a bit later, some crisp butties....and a pack of wispa bars while reading the emails

Then some stewed apple ( windfalls harvested from side of road yesterday ) and tescos cherry ripple ice cream for lunch

              Then for tea
sausages ( shop ), red mashed potatoes ( red duke of york )...looks very strange but tastes good ( garden ), carrot and turnip ( garden ) , apple, sage, lemon and onion stuffing ( all from garden , apart from breadcrumbs in stuffing )

and now, some stewed pears ( windfalls harvested yesterday from the side of a road.... ) with chocolate sauce ( melted bag of chocolate mis-shape bars mixed with double cream )

I was just thinking about this 5 a day thing and figured that people who have time to sit counting what they eat really ought to get out in the garden more. So I recorded what I had today. Toasted home-made bread with full fruit blackcurrant jam and orange juice for brekky. Home made soup and a ham salad sandwich for lunch. Cod in white sauce with spuds and carrots for evening meal. Wandering about in the garden I picked and ate 2 plums and 2 apples. Apart from the protein all home produced. Not sure about 5 a day but it seems like a reasonable diet to me. Oh, I forgot to mention the crisps and biscuits...

On Saturday I made a paneer (homemade) and potato (lottie) saag with spinach and tomatoes. With a homemade naan with black onion seeds, and homemade yoghurt - all v yummy! Finished it off last night.

I've just had pitta breads [finished off the packet in the fridge] and cheese and green tom chutney; we are still 5 days off it being ready [made 12th Aug] and we are just about to finish off the 3rd bottle; which is the biggest of the lot.

                    Oops.

We are quite a healthy lot really! Today I had kohl rabi from plot and made bubble and squeak with leftover potatoes and sprout tops from yesterday. Why can't we have more brussel tops? I prefer them to the sprouts! My shepherds pie I made also had carrots and onions from Lottie and I feel very virtuous as I put cold roast lamb through my mincer and used that.
